The controversial Joker has had quite the start to its box office run, as it’s achieved the best opening weekend for an October film ever. Plus, Joker is well on its way to becoming Joaquin Phoenix’s most lucrative film.
The film represents a bit of an artistic departure from the blockbuster fare of the DC Extended Universe, which has produced several high-grossing films over the past several years—including one that surpassed $1 billion. And that universe doesn’t even include the wildly successful Christopher Nolan Batman films.
With that said, where does Joker rank amongst all DC films at the box office after just one weekend? And what numbers can we expect from Joker moving forward as it’s positioned in the DCEU?
