Diego Carlos reinforced his status as one of European soccer’s most highly rated defenders on La Liga week 24 by heading Sevilla in front against Osasuna and guiding his side to a 2-0 victory. The win means the Andalusians are now third in the table after Barcelona could only draw at home to Cadiz.
Signed for €15 million ($16.5 million) from French club Nantes, the 27-year-old has shone as an athletic and technically gifted central defender since he arrived in 2019 and helped Sevilla to Europa League glory in 2020.
And while the Brazilian’s qualities continue to garner interest from around the continent, Carlos—whose contract runs until 2024—is poised to stay in southern Spain unless Sevilla receive a substantial offer. The club’s shrewd sporting director Monchi knows the qualities he brings to the team and will only consider selling him for a big sum.
