Chris Pratt’s ‘Tomorrow War’ Is Now “Opening” Against Tom Cruise’s ‘Top Gun: Maverick’

Amazon will debut Skydance’s The Tomorrow War on the same day that Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick opens in theaters.

As rumored for awhile, Skydance Media has sold Christ Pratt’s The Tomorrow War to Amazon Prime, and the big-budget sci-fi action movie will debut on the streaming platform July 2. Chris McKay’s would-be tentpole, about citizens from the present being recruited into the future to fight a losing war against alien invaders, also stars Yvonne Strahovski, Betty Gilpin, Sam Richardson, Edwin Hodge and J.K. Simmons. That another Paramount biggie is being sold off to a streaming platform is not unexpected, even if it remains a tragic indication of how far the once-mighty studio has fallen. What’s ghoulishly ironic is that Amazon went and dated it on the same day as Paramount and Skydance’s Top Gun: Maverick.
