Milwaukee seemed essentially a shoo-in to land the convention after the city council of Nashville, Tennessee, rejected a draft agreement with GOP officials, which is required to obtain federal security grants for the event.
A Republican selection committee recommended Milwaukee’s bid last month, which has bipartisan support from city stakeholders including Mayor Cavalier Johnson (D).
